Tucked at the base of the cliffs in a small northern seaside town, the Seaview Restaurant, in Saltburn-by-the-sea, is worth a visit if you find yourself in North Yorkshire and craving fish and chips.

Regularly lauded as the best fish and chips in Saltburn, Seaview also expertly caters for gluten-free diners, with a dedicated menu and separate fryer.

The main change from the ‘regular’ menu is that the chips served to gluten-free diners are of the skinny variety rather than chunky chip shop style chips, but for me, it’s worth the trade-off to know I’m eating safely.

I’ve eaten at Seaview a couple of times, and it would probably be worth it for the panoramic views, even if the food wasn’t delicious. But, happily, the fish is hot and fresh with crisp light batter, the portions are very generous, and the service is friendly.

Every time we’re in the area, we try to make time to pop into Seaview. On our latest visit, we took my grandma there for lunch.

The restaurant’s entrance is conveniently located just a few metres from the nearest car park and the pier, with an accessible lift leading to the first-floor dining room. Navigating our way to a table was easy, and we were lucky to secure one with a stunning view of the sea and the pier.

There’s a unique pleasure in eating freshly cooked fish and chips within sight and smell of the sea—an experience only amplified by good company.
